Interactive Network Topology Designer

Scaling to a multi-rig fleet requires more than just fast PCs—it requires a solid network foundation. Use this tool to design your local topology, calculate aggregate traffic to your storage nodes, and find the right networking hardware for your studio.

Networking Principles

The 10GbE Imperative

In a centralized storage model (NAS/ZFS), every worker node sends its data over the network simultaneously. A standard 1GbE link will saturate at approximately 110-115 MB/s. If you are recording 12 streams at high bitrate, you will exceed this capacity, causing write-stalls and dropped frames.

Managed vs. Unmanaged

We recommend Managed Switches for any studio with 3+ rigs. This allows you to set up VLANs, isolating recording traffic from standard internet use, and provides the diagnostics needed to identify exactly which cable or port is failing.
